Hello Friends and Colorful Humans,
I come to you at a very dark time in our world. Not only is it winter here in North America, but the world also feels like a very dark place right now. If you’ve followed my art for even a fraction of time, you’ll know and understand my politics and the passion I have for diversity (see my campaign poster from the November 24 election, free to download here). I’d rather lose some fans than lose my moral compass. My values are reflected in everything I communicate, publish, and create.
My husband and I are approaching our 30th anniversary, and when this white girl and that brown boy first got together, we had no idea what we were getting into. But we’ve stood by each other, no matter what was said or done to us.
Although feelings of fear and division are at the forefront today, we can’t let that dictate the way forward. I feel it’s more important than ever to remind you beautiful humans that CREATIVITY can be a catalyst for change—within our communities and in the world as a whole. Fascism, authoritarianism, and other forms of oppression always try to snuff out creativity. They want to limit our ability to dream up alternatives, explore new ideas, and challenge those in power. But we, as creators, will never let that happen.
As an artist, I deeply believe in the power of CREATIVITY. It allows us to see the world through different lenses. It can embolden us to find solutions, solve problems, navigate challenges, and, most importantly, think differently. CREATIVITY can be a force of freedom. It opens pathways to new forms of resistance, builds community across platforms, and reveals solutions we might not otherwise see in our current environment. The best part? CREATIVITY lives in everyone, and it’s free for anyone to embrace.
When we create something—whether it’s a one-woman business, a video animation, a game, a poem, a song, a school project, or a meal with foods from outside your culture—whatever it may be, we’re taking something from within us and putting it out into the world. Now, it can be seen, heard, and sometimes even tasted. And when we share it, parts of us that were once hidden become known to others—we become seen.
CREATIVITY, in whatever form, helps us become who we truly are.
So, friends, keep CREATING and engage in creative thinking. We need to understand more about each other, and in doing so, we just might save the world.
Please know that my heart is with so many of you out there. I will always do my best to make this space—my art, business, and social networks—a safe place for those who are fearful, vulnerable, or marginalized. ❤️
Lunchbox Note
This is a really fast and cute way to bring a bit of love into your home for Valentines. You only need airdrop clay old paper napkins, a heart cookie cutter, and mod podge, and a few other household supplies. What an inventive way to add some homemade fun to your holiday decorations. I’ll be trying it this year as well. Let me know if you happen to try it.

Quote I’m holding onto:
From a 1971 Sesame Street Episode
“I am somebody.
I may be poor, but I am somebody.
I may be young, but I am somebody.
I may be small, but I am somebody.
I may make a mistake, but I am somebody.
My clothes are different, my face is different,
my hair is different, but I am somebody.
I am black, brown, white, I speak a different language,
but I must be respected, protected, never rejected.
I am somebody.”
-Reverend Jesse Jackson
Please continue to support messages of inclusiveness.
We live in a time when standing up for others and speaking out is vital. We are all connected, and our actions have a ripple effect.
